Abstract: A novel methylene insertion product is reported. The new compound {(CO)(3)Fe(mu-CH2)Te}(2) has been isolated from the reaction of the mixed-chalcogenide compound Fe-2(CO)(6)(mu-STe) with diazomethane. It has been characterized by IR, H-1, C-13 and Te-125 NMR spectroscopy. Its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods: monoclinic; space group, P2(1)/c; a = 6.743(2), b = 10.996(2), c = 18.007(2) Angstrom, beta = 96.60(2)degrees; V = 1326.3(2) Angstrom(3); Z = 4; F(000) = 1024; Mo K alpha radiation (graphite monochromated); mu = 6.53 mm(-1); T = 293 K; D-c = 2.86 g cm(-3); R = 0.065 (R(w) = 0.064).
