Abstract: In this paper, the vibration characteristics of membrane of Indian drums have been studied using finite difference method and digital computer. This method can be used for getting the displacement of various instances of time. The effect of the enclosed air has also been taken into consideration. The displacement and damping characteristics for uniform single, double and triple membranes which are centrally loaded have been plotted. It was found that the damping is much slower and better harmonics are developed when these membranes are used for drums as in case of Indian drums than drums with single membrane.
