Abstract: The improved phase shifts in the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) have been theoretically estimated using the full curved wave formalism. The calculated phase shifts in binary compounds are in good agreement with the experimental values. The chemical transferability of phase shifts in a large number of compounds has been established. The calculated bond distances are in very good agreement with the crystallo-graphic values.
