Abstract: Synthesis of optically pure 2,6-dimethyl-5-hepten-l-ol(melonol) has been attempted using lipases. Among three different lipases tested, pig panereatic lipase (PPL) is found to be suitable for transesterification of (+/-)-melonol to afford (R)-(+)-melonol with an enantiomeric excess of 94%.
