Abstract: Photoisomerisation quantum yield under direct irradiation (330 nm) and fluorescence lifetime of diphenylbutadiene (DPB) increase as the concentration of the diene is increased. The results are discussed in terms of quantum chain process, which is believed to occur due to exchange of energy between the excited state s-trans-DPB and ground state s-cis-DPB.
